The workforce for men and women has changed because of the consequences of age, gender, immigration, politics, education and the economy. Even though the workforce has been affected by these consequences, the question is now, what can be done to make sure it is sustainable for the future. The following will cover the consequences of change, healthcare cost, and housing needs, social security, and programs for the aging. First, the consequences, such as age, gender, immigration, politics, education and the economy has made the percentage of the workforce change drastically. As a result of both of these trends, the labor force grew at a fast pace of 26 percent each year. â⬠There are several people of the baby boomer era, including myself, that have changed jobs more once throughout our life growing and preparing for a comfortable life for our family and the future, there are some that have retired, became disabled or suffered the loss of a loved one, but with the workforce changes, some of us have suffered more than one type of loss. According to, Dennis Cauchon: only 45. % of Americans had jobs in 2010, the lowest rate since 1983 and down from a peak of 49. 3% in 2000. Last year, just 66. 8% of men had jobs, the lowest on record. The bad economy, an aging population and a plateau in women working are contributing to changes that pose serious challenges for financing the nationââ¬â¢s social programs. For example, job troubles appear to have slowed a trend of people working later in life, putting more pressure on Social Security says Marc Goldwei n. Another change: the bulk of those not working have shifted from children to adults. The aging of 77 million baby boomers born from 1946 through 1964 from children to workers to retirees is changing the relationship between workers and dependents. â⬠In the trends of men and women working, they are different because, when looking back in history, men has always been the person to build a financial basis for the family and over time women have increase their presence in the workforce, which added to the financial basis of the family structure. Then there are women who are single parents and they have increased the workforce as well, they sometimes have more than one job. Then there is the diversity, racial and ethical differences in the workforce make up a large ratio when it comes to any race or ethnic group according to various surveys. Another trait that affects the baby boomers is age discrimination, because of the economy; some employers are finding ways to get rid of, force retirement or lay off older employees and replace them with younger employees that will accept the pay offered just to have a job or an opportunity to excel throughout the company. The Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 (ADEA) banned discrimination against workers aged 40 to 65 and forbade employers to fire, demote, or reduce the salaries of older workers without good cause. Yet age discrimination still occurs. Although ads stating that no one over 40 will be hired are no longer legal over 20,000 claims of age discrimination are filed each year. The problem is proving it. Although the ADEA has prevented employers from many older workers, it has had little effect on hiring (Quadagno, 2011, p. 235). When a person gets to the age ransition (40 or older) of working for years, raising their family, there comes the time when you have to start preparing for retirement, not just planning it. The children are getting older or have already left the house and started on their own. People will consider the benefits they will receive when they retire and health benefits are very important because of the possibilities of health concerns that are current or that cou ld happen later in life. Retirement is also the time to think about taking time to enjoy the time off, being with family, friends and the grandchildren. Also trying to stay active and healthy is an important part of retirement. When a person has worked for certain of years for a company to provide for their family and themselves and they want their retirement to reflect the success of planning and preparing and that it will be able to sustain their way of living in their retirement years. The American economy, the nature of work, and the nature of the workforce are vastly different today from what they were at various times in the past. Initially, the Unites States was an agrarian society, that is, a society in which agriculture is the dominant form of work and people and animals are the major sources of energy. In the competitive context of the global economy, a number of changes have occurred that are detrimental to the well-being of many American workers. As a results of such changes, many Americans are not only unable to better their lot in comparison to their parents, but are finding them worse off than their parents. â⬠The United States Department of Labor (USDL) states: ââ¬Å"who are the workers of the future? Many of them will be older versions of us. In fact, over half of the population of 2030 is alive today. Immigration will play the largest role in the growth of the Unites States through mid-century. â⬠Additionally, there is the health care and cost of the aging population, which is those that were born between 1946 and 1969 and most of the baby boomers are preparing to retire. The health care cost for the aging can increase drastically, because of the number of aging adults entering retirement and some have insurance coverage for of their current health conditions and others may not, but is there also the concern for future health concerns, and whether or not they will be able to pay they those services if needed or if their insurance will cover it. A healthier lifestyle can help increase a longer life and decrease the multiple health concerns and conditions a person can acquire from aging. David M. From 1970-2005, the probability of a 65 year old surviving to age 85 doubled, from about a 20 percent chance to a 40 percent chance. Many researchers presumed that the same forces allowing people to live longer, including better health behaviors and medical advances, would also delay the onset of disease and allow people to spend fewer years of their lives with debilitating illness. Although such factors as heredity and biology partially determine whether an individual develops a chronic disease, research also shows that social factors play an important role. The likelihood of developing a chronic disease that produces disability is partly a function of oneââ¬â¢s health lifestyle, defined as a pattern of behavior based on choices and options that are available to people according to their life situations. On the other hand, the store management was positively oriented towards customer service and turnover of the store. They designed methods to keep these two areas working smoothly. However, things have long changed. Today, the store sales are low. Customers no longer flow into the store to make purchases. Several reasons can bear attributed to these changes. First of all, there has been hike in prices of commodities. Taking a fast study, one will not fail to observe that at average, prices of commodities have gone up by at least 19% within a span of the just ended year. The hike in prices can be economically related to the loss of customers. Moreover, there has been an incoming of new grocery stores in the market. These have come in with better services and better offers that those provided in my store. In this sense, customers have had no choice but to turn to the greener pastures, regarding their tastes and preferences. Lastly, management in the store has stopped caring. They are no longer concerned about the employee conduct. They do not care about the relationship between the store and their customers anymore. All they care about today is making a lot of profits from the few customers visiting by hiking prices. These are u nethical advances in business. Background to the study According to reputed scholars of economics and business studies, the reputation of a business is entirely depended on its management. Despite the fact that the chief aim of any business is to make profits, it is also true that, a business is obligated to deliver quality services and considerable prices of their goods or services to their customers. In this sense, a business management is required to keep up in strategic planning. At any time, a business management is supposed to check the performance of its strategies and review where necessary. Therefore, I am justified to take a move in reviewing the current status of the subject grocery store. The review is expected to find out problems underlying the continued poor performance of the store. The review shall further take into consideration both the internal and eternal environments that are directly affecting the performance of the store. Normally, the success of a business is measured in how much it can make as profit overtime. Instead, a successful business takes step to ensure they uphold business ethics; both internal and external. The balance between ethical considerations and profit generation is a key determinant to the life of a business. A businesses life, continuity and expansion will highly depend on this balance. However, with reference to the subject business, its management has been reluctant to address these internal and external ethical issues of a business. Considering the necessity of upholding ethical issues in a business therefore, I set out to review the current status of the business, aiming at proposing reliable solutions and bringing the grocery store back to track. Objectives Revision of prices Improve business relations in the internal and external environments Improve employee recruitment, training and placing process Advertisement Implementation of the Objectives Revision of prices As I have stated in the introductory part of this paper,the services and products provided by my store have been hiked. This has caused a large loss of customers as they opt for similar commodities provided at cheaper prices by competitors. Therefore, in efforts to lower prices and regain customers, I propose that the store management cuts down their prices to lay them between a profit margin of between 5% and 20% per commodity. This way, profits obtained will not be super normal. Instead, they will be reasonable and on the other hand, the prices of commodities and services will be within the considerable reach of the anticipated customers. Improving Business Relations Despite the excellent performance of the HRM and company management at large, there have been various short comings concerning employee and industrial relationships. The various weaknesses in the current system concerning employee and industrial relations can be summarized to three forms; the protocol, the workspace layout and internal and external interactions. Employee relations The HRM for this company is commendable for the efforts taken so far in maintaining quality relations between the management and the workers. So far, the policies passed and others amended have provided a healthy environment for relationship between these two parties. However, the system is today faced with several challenges as described above. The challenges can be broadened in detail as follows: Protocol: The issue of protocol in the work place has an effect of reducing the credibility of interaction and relations. For instance, an employee may want to report misdoings of a fellow employee who is senior in rank. Due to the policy of protocol, such an employee is forced to report such a case, through the same employee being reported. This breaks the effectiveness of relations between the workers and the management and thus compromising relations. Secondly, the issue of protocol at times breaks or delays the chain of communication. This commonly happens in cases where along the chain, there is a lazy or absentee figure. For insurance, a case where an employee has put a letter through, and has to wait till it gets to the top management, of course following the chain. If in between is a lazy or absentee figure, then the communication chain may break or delay, compromising the effectiveness of relations. Working Space: The plan in which an office is laid influences workers relations in the work environment. If the lay out for a working station is closed, there is inhibited interaction between workers. Further, a case of closed office in a working station encourages undesirable behaviour in the working place. For instance, if working in a closed office environment, employees may easily get lazy, postpone work, take bribes or misuse office facilities. These are the weaknesses facing this company in regards to the current policy. In an effort to help solving the current crisis in employee relations, the company HRM is recommended to revise its policies regarding protocol. Protocol is necessary and inevitable, but its stiffness could hinder desirable changes in the work place. Therefore, the HRM needs to reform the protocol policies aiming at making them a little fluid of flexible so that in the future, cases that compromise relations between senior need junior workers are contained. In the issue of work space, the company needs to revise its office settings to adapt an open office setting. When offices are turned to open settings, workers interact more, openness encourages activeness and the risk of behaving inappropriately goes away. Thus, to address the companys weaknesses triggered by closed office settings, open office need to be adapted. Industrial Relations The issue of industrial relations needs change as well. As highlighted earlier, the problem in industrial relations is mainly caused by the excessive official contacts remained between the company and its associates. There is need to curb this menace and recommendable, by adapting a strategy that incorporates the company and its links in less formal settings. The best strategy that has worked between other companies according to research is holding tournaments. The nature of sports is less formal. Therefore, associating companies in such settings reduces the tension that comes with formal meetings, eventually cultivating a healthy interaction between the companies involved. Improving Recruitment, training and Placement As outlined by Latus business solutions, the department responsible for personnel is referred to as the Human Resource Management (HRM). HRM is mandated through policy to manage and provide necessities to employees in an effort to enable a business achieve its objectives. If well managed, HRM should be able to increase a companys profitability through improvement of job designs, training employees, spear heading institutional change, reducing job absenteeism and minimizing recruitment and training costs, but still ensuring that these activities are effectively carried out. The aspects underling HRM are reviewed and presented below: Position Specification: The aim of recruitment and selection of personnel is depended on various basic considerations. Therefore, people of the community who find it easier to use shortcuts within a company should self warn themselves as such conduct is inappropriate. Advertisement Upon the successful completion of the implementation of the first three objectives proposed, there shall be need for advertisement. Advertisement is necessary to make customers aware of changes made in the store. It is meant to re-invite customers to the store they once loved. Blood Brothers Theatre Review Essay We visited the Phoenix Theatre on the fourth of October and when we the play started I was drawn to the actual setting of the stage; firstly contrast in the set and how it represented the two sideââ¬â¢s class divide. Mrs Johnstoneââ¬â¢s huge family all cramped up in the small, crumbling, graffiti covered terraced council housing with the rest of the workers and Mrs Lyonââ¬â¢s large elegant suburban detached house with is wrought iron street lamp and large windows and also with the interior of the houses only the kitchen of Mrs Johnstoneââ¬â¢s house is shown overflowing with cooking utensils and laundry and other domestic trivialities but not a chair in sight which means Mrs Johnstone is always either shown standing up or sitting on the step whereas Mrs Lyons living room is shown with its tasteful decorating, art deco lamps, corner pillars and a large sofa in the middle where she is often shown sitting on offering another contrast between her and Mrs Johnstone. Another feature of the setting I particularly enjoyed was the raked stage which allowed better levels for the actors the stage is heavily raked, meaning that a lot of the action is easy to see from all over the house. The set is simple and remains stationary, creating a focused performance space and emphasised certain scenes like when Mrs Lyons suggested Mrs Johnstone give her one of the twins she upstaged Mrs Johnstone who had to turn to respond and also allows for multiple scenes such as when Mrs Lyons revealed Eddie and Lindaââ¬â¢s ââ¬Ëaffairââ¬â¢ she turned Micky to face upstage where Eddie and Linda are walking together, which emphasises the cross cutting of that scene and another feature of the raked stage is that it simply allowed a better view of the Performance for the audience. The Play began with a frozen image of the dead twins seen through a red gauze curtain and the narrator gives the lines he is to repeat at the end This use of Dramatic Irony means you sympathise more with the characters knowing the fate that awaits them and it is also a very dramatic way to begin the show immediately drawing you in making ask questions which of course are answered throughout the duration of the play. The dramatic irony also makes you play closer attention to the play as you are compelled to see how the situation could have been avoided and it is shown through foreshadowing that all that would happen was set in stone from when a seven year old micky pretended to shoot a seven year old Eddie to when a seventeen year old Sammy pulled a knife out on the bus. These glimpses into their future might have been missed if you werenââ¬â¢t completely Hooked on the play and so the use of framing and dramatic irony means you were absorbed in the play completely. The costume in the play is a strong representation of the social status of the characters and so everything about Eddie and Mickeyââ¬â¢s clothes represents key parts of their life and how they have added to their character as their costumes are a large representative of the whole nature versus nurture theme of the play. Eddie as a seven year old wears very neatly pressed v neck sweater over an immaculately white shirt and short trousers whereas mickey was wearing a jumper so ragged and dirty its quite hard to determine what colour it is, itââ¬â¢s full of holes and stretches to well over his knees indicating it is most likely a hand me down. The contrast in the childhood upbringing of the two characters is apparent in their clothing, the closest Eddie has ever come to second hand clothes is when he meets mickey on the other hand mickey has probably grown up with his siblings old clothes and toys et cetera. The adolescent Mickey wears fashionable denim and leather. Which shows him at what was the peak of his life, the happiest his is to be in the play. The adolescent Eddie wears a very smart school uniform The adult Mickey again wears a baggy jumper. However this is when he is dominated by medicine. His clothing also illustrates the loss of that huge childhood energy he had at the beginning of the play. It is hard to determine what purpose the narrator serves. On stage he appears dressed in a smart black suit ââ¬âreminiscent of funeral garb so sort of fore shadowing but the costume his gives him a neutral status, as we cannot identify anything about his character. It gives him a sense of anonymity throughout the show, and the fact that the other characters do not acknowledge him gives him a ghostlike quality except when he takes a picture of. His main role throughout the show is to act as a constant reminder to us of the Brothersââ¬â¢ tragic fate ââ¬â exemplified in the musical number ââ¬ËShoes upon the Tableââ¬â¢, which is repeated Throughout both acts of the show. It is also notable that as the show commences with the scene of The finale, his attire is like that of somebody who is attending a funeral ââ¬â and it seems that he is dressed for such an occasion throughout the entire play. The characters seem to look through him or just avoid him until Linda asks h im to take their photograph and it seems as soon as she does this their lives begin to go wrong, coincidence or were their lives touched by evil The use of sound is possibly the most powerful dramatic medium used in the play; the songs are extremely well written fit immaculately with the themes of the play and the lyrics and melody are re used throughout the play. Music was used to draw emotion from the audience. It also helped to move along the action and always conveyed a theme, message or feeling. Echo was also used in parts of songs. However it was recorded and therefore gave a very surreal and artificial effect. The music and lighting combined at the beginning of the play to create both a DRAMATIC EFFECT and a SAD ATMOSPHERE which worked very well to draw you in. The use of the orchestra collaborated well with the songs. The gunshot at the end of the play worked well as it shocked the audience despite them knowing the ending. There was a great contrast in lighting between the countryside and the city. In the countryside it was bright and the scenery consisted of typical green rolling hills and a crystal blue sky. However in the city the lighting was much darker and the scenery consisted buildings. When the front door of Mrs Johnstone house opened light flooded on to the stage. The purpose of this was to generate the idea of presence of Mrs Johnstone and her children living inside the house. The stage was lit up with a red light at the beginning of the end. There are two main groups of Patels in Gujarat that make up the Patidar community: 1. Leva Patel/Patidar and 2. Kadva Patel/Patidar. The Kadva Patidar sub-caste is found mostly in districts of the Saurashtra region like Rajkot, Junagadh, Jamnagar, Bhavnagar and Mahesana. The Leva Patidar sub-caste is primarily concentrated in the Charotar Region (which are also known as Charotar Leuva Patidars), Kheda, Anand, Kanam, Baroda, Dahod, Bharuch, Panchmahal, Surat and Valsad. The Leva Patels are said to be the descendents of Lav, son of Lord Rama and the Kadva Patels who are said to be descendents of Kush. The Leva Patels and Kadva Patels are known for their entrepreneurial skills in business and agriculture having a strong hold in Gujarat and have made a name for themselves around the world. There are religious and ideological differences between various groups of Patels. They have their own social samaj (gatherings) and mandirs at various locations. The Patel community followed an age-old tradition of marrying within their ââ¬ËGOLââ¬â¢ or circle, but with changes in economic status, global influence, literacy and education, changes are now taking place and Patels are increasingly marrying outside the Gols. Other Gujaratis who migrated out of what is now the state of Gujarat during the British Raj to British East Africa (Kenya and Uganda) sometimes adopted the surname ââ¬ËPatelââ¬â¢, and this surname was then subsequently passed onto their descendants (who now mainly reside outside Kenya and Uganda). Also, during the British Raj, some ââ¬ËPatelsââ¬â¢ who migrated to British East Africa and the Union of South Africa (South Africa) adopted different surnames, usually the name of their village, their trade or even their grandfatherââ¬â¢s name. Subsequently, these surnames have been passed down to their descendants. The ââ¬Å"Patel motelâ⬠phenomenon, as it is popularly known, has made a major impact on the American hospitality industry. The surname is the second most common last name in India, following Singh. ââ¬Å"The trend started in the early 1940ââ¬â¢s, though the real growth took place inà the 1960ââ¬â¢s and 1970ââ¬â¢s.â⬠[citation needed] A sizable number of Indian immigrants to the United States came in the 1960s and 1970s, when the motel industry was booming. Many of them bought up undervalued and dilapidated properties and turned them into businesses.[9] As many as 60% of mid-sized motels and hotel properties, all over the US, are owned by the people of Indian origin. Of this nearly one-third have the surname Patel ââ¬â a popular one among Indian Gujaratis(those that came from Gujarat).[10][11]) ââ¬Å"According to the Asian American Hotel Association (A.A.H.O.A), 50 percent of hotels and motels in the United States are owned by people of Indian Originâ⬠.[citation needed] A large immigrant population of Gujuratiââ¬â¢s came in the 1960s and 1970s. These Patels known as the founding fathers, worked hard and saved then invested in a lot of properties. Having a steady amount income and savings, they called over their distant relatives and friends from the villages of India. Upon their arrival, they would already have financial assistance from the founding fathers and start up their own businesses. Even though Patels are evenly spread throughout the country they still have held onto their vast network, which has definitely been a key to their entrepreneurship.

Analytic and Sequential Learning An analytic person likes to learn things step-by-step, or sequentially. Sound familiar? If so, look over these characteristics to find out if these traits hit home, as well. Then you may want to capitalize on the study recommendations and improve your study skills. Are You a Sequential Learner? An analytic or sequential learner may be more likely to respond to a problem with logic first, instead of emotion.If youre a sequential learner, you may feel the need to understand each part of an algebra equation.You may be good with time management, and you probably get to school on time.You tend to remember names.Your notes may be divided and labeled. You categorize things a lot.You plan ahead. Problems You may get hung up on details when reading. You have to understand something before you move on.You might get frustrated easily with people who dont understand things as quickly as you do. Analytic Style Study Tips Do you become frustrated when people assert opinions as facts? People who are very analytic learners might. Analytic learners like facts and they like learning things in sequential steps. They are also fortunate because many of their preferred methods are used in traditional teaching. Teachers also enjoy giving tests that favor analytic learners, like true and false or multiple choice exams. Since your learning style is compatible with traditional teaching styles and you enjoy order, your biggest problem is getting frustrated. An analytic learner may benefit from the following: Ask for clear rules. You need clarity. Without rules, you might feel lost.Dont get frustrated by opinions. Some students may offer opinions in class, especially the holistic learners who want to make comparisons! It is just their way of understanding, so dont let it bother you.Dont worry about not finishing a task. You may not want to move on to a new task if something (like a lack of supplies) interferes with your work. Try not to get hung up. Sometimes its okay to move on and re-visit a project later.Dont worry if things dont seem logical. We dont make the rules sometimes. If youre reading a book or chapter and you dont seem to be getting the message, give it time. You may need to know all the details first, and then put them together.Take things step-by-step, but dont get hung up. If youre doing a math problem with an equation, dont get hung up if you dont understand a certain step. Take a leap of faith!Ask for a specific goal. For example Kevin James, James Gandolfini, and other actors are shown with skinny partners on and off the screen. They also get more press than heavy female stars. I also feel that race has to do with body image. African American women are more comfortable with their bodies than white women. No matter the size, African American women wear makeup, dress up, and portray a sense of pride. Heavier white women tend to wear baggy clothes, no makeup, and try to hide themselves from society. Black men seem to accept heavier women and find that more attractive. White men want skinny women with big breasts. Another body image point that Americans perpetrate is the tanned blonde that stands about 5ââ¬â¢10 and weighs about 100 lbs. Ethnic models are sometimes accepted if blue eyed, but dark black models are discouraged. Ethnic hair is also discouraged. African American women wear wigs and straighten their hair. I
